SkinPen Microneedling Channels New Skin to Deliver Results
With all of the lasers and devices available at Skinspirations, one that is surprisingly effective, especially considering that there's minimal downtime & cost, is Microneedling. Microneedling produces firmer skin with more elasticity, smaller pores, and better texture. It's also effective for most types of scars.
Microneedling is one of many aesthetic medical treatments that produces results by stimulating the body's own arsenal of healing responses. There are several well-known microneedling devices available and Skinspirations uses the SkinPen microneedling device. It has a disposable cluster of micro-fine needles on the tip and can be adjusted to reach the depth determined by the aesthetician. The tip extends & retracts too fast to see and can produce thousands of microscopic channels in the skin during a treatment.
The reaction of the body to these tiny, measured punctures is a response of growth and healing factors that increase both collagen & elastin (responsible for elasticity in the skin).
The open channels created by the SkinPen allow ingredients applied during the treatment to get below the surface of the skin. Most topical medication & products can't penetrate the outer skin layers so microneedling provides essentially tiny injections of medication to the depths where it's most effective.
The beauty of having microneedling treatments in a physician's practice is that the treatment can be customized with medications & techniques only available to doctors. Some of the techniques used at Skinspirations combine microneedling with Sculptra, to increase skin thickness; with platelet rich plasma (PRP) for a "Vampire" treatment; with antioxidants for additional anti-aging effects, and with retinoic acid for acne scars.
What to Expect During a Treatment?
A topical anesthetic is applied before the treatment and most people don't find the treatment itself more than mildly uncomfortable. There's usually a sunburn-like sensation for the first few hours afterward & the skin looks reddened & tighter for a day or two. Most people can return to work or social events the next day, with a little tinted moisturizer.
How Many Treatments are Recommended?
Skinspirations recommends starting with three microneedling treatments, done a month or so apart, for general anti-aging or rejuvenation goals, and at least six sessions when treating scars. Like a fitness routine for your body, where once you've achieved good results, its relatively easier to maintain them, touch-up treatments are recommended about twice a year.
