Biostimulants Provide Results Lasting Longer Than Fillers
Two of the main contributors to the appearance of aged skin are the loss of collagen, which provides support and thickness to the skin, and elastin, which allows the skin to snap back when stretched.
Biostimulant skin treatments turn the clock around by increasing both the skin’s production of healthy collagen and elastin, resulting in increased firmness and smoother skin anywhere on the body. Once new tissue is produced, it takes about two years for it to disappear.
A new biostimulant treatment, using biodegradable polycaprolactone (PCL) particles, is now available exclusively at Skinspirations, and on average, results last more than 2 years.
What Makes Polycaprolactone Special?
Polycaprolactone (PCL), like Radiesse, is a biostimulant material that induces the formation of type III collagen, which is a predecessor to type I collagen. Of the three types of collagen in the body, type I collagen is the most structurally important type. The production of increased type I collagen leads to skin tightening and an enhancement in skin quality. One of the main differences between Polycaprolactone and Radiesse is that PCL persists in the skin longer, producing results that can last several years.
PCL has been safely used in medical implants more than 70 years. PCL is used for absorbable sutures (Monocryl™), contraceptive implants and for 3D tissue and/or organ replacement.
PCL Treatments At Skinspirations
Although Polycaprolactone (PCL) is an FDA-approved, biocompatible, and biodegradable synthetic polyester used in implantable medical devices, resorbable sutures, tissue scaffolds, and drug delivery systems, PCL injections are not yet FDA-approved.
Ellansé, an injectable PCL-based collagen stimulator, received CE certification in 2009 and over 600,000 commercially available PCL injection treatments have been performed. The CE mark signifies that a product complies with European Union (EU) health, safety, and environmental protection standards.
Dr. Elliott has developed a proprietary method of making injectable PCL so that her clients may take advantage of this long lasting biostimulant.
