SkinPen Microneedling Channels New Skin to Deliver Results

With all of the lasers and devices available at Skinspirations, one that is surprisingly effective, especially considering that there's minimal downtime & cost, is microneedling with the SkinPen. The SkinPen is the only FDA-approved microneedling device available in the U.S.A.. Safe on all skin types and body areas, microneedling produces firmer skin with more elasticity, smaller pores, and better texture. It's also effective for most types of scars.

Microneedling is a treatment that produces tiny holes, or micro-channels, stimulating the rejuvenating cascade of healing factors released by the surrounding skin. The reaction of the body to these tiny, measured punctures is a response of growth and healing factors that increase both collagen & elastin (responsible for elasticity in the skin). The SkinPen's disposable, sterile cartridge of 14 needles, each finer than a human hair, can be adjusted to penetrate up to 2.5 mm, making it effective for treating any area of skin or scars. The tip extends & retracts too fast to see and can produce thousands of microscopic channels in the skin during one treatment.

The open channels created by the SkinPen allow ingredients applied during the treatment to get below the surface of the skin. Most topical medications & products can't penetrate the outer skin layers so microneedling provides thousands of tiny channels for products to get below the surface where they can produce the most effects.

The beauty of having microneedling treatments in a physician's practice is that the treatment can be customized with medications & techniques only available to doctors. Some of the techniques used at Skinspirations combine microneedling with Sculptra, to increase skin thickness; with platelet rich plasma (PRP) for a "Vampire" treatment; with antioxidants for additional anti-aging effects, and with retinoic acid for acne scars.

What to Expect During a Treatment?

A topical anesthetic is applied before the treatment and most people don't find the treatment itself more than mildly uncomfortable. There's usually a sunburn-like sensation for the first few hours afterward & the skin looks reddened & tighter for a day or two. Most people can return to work or social events the next day, with a little tinted moisturizer.

How Many Treatments Are Recommended?

Our estheticians recommend starting with three microneedling treatments, done a month or so apart, for general anti-aging or rejuvenation goals, and at least six sessions when treating scars. Like a fitness routine for your body, where once you've achieved good results, touch-up treatments are recommended about twice a year.

The price for a 60-minute SkinPen Microneedling treatment of the face is $340 and a package of 3 treatments is only $867.
